WELCOME TO KINDERGARTEN WEEK OF 10-23-17
Religion: Chapter 7 : God Creates My Senses: The children will see that their five senses are gifts from God. As a Catholic Church we use our five senses in the sacraments as we taste the host and drink the wine, feel the water and oil used in Baptism and Confirmation, smell the candles in church, see the colors of the vestments, flowers, and cloths used through the seasons. We touch the palms of the people around us as we give the sign of peace at Mass.We use our senses to discover God’s world and we thank Him for these gifts.
MATH: In Chapter 3 : We introduce these vocabulary words : six and seven, eight, nine, ten. We will use objects to represent and count the quantities of 6-10. They will practice writing the numerals 6 to 10 on lined paper and create sets to represent these numerals.
READING: . We continue working on letter recognition, matching and printing upper and lower case letters, and working with the individual sounds for each letter. . Please continue doing your list of sight words for this week that we sent home on Friday of last week. The words for this week are: six, purple, at, me, that. Remember we are introducing the color words as well. We have had the colors red, orange, green, and yellow, brown and purple. We are comparing fiction and non fiction stories to make connections (similarities and differences ) and looking at story structure—beginning, middle and end of stories. We also discuss the setting of the story. The individual little readers coming home each week should be read with you nightly for fluency ( smoothness). Keep all these little readers even after we are done so that your child can read them again and again for practice so they will retain the sight words they contain.
PHONICS: I will continue to work with the letter Hh and Mm this week. We will form them, identify and practice making the individual sound for Hh and Mm at the beginning of words.
LANGUAGE: We will review the sight words : I , a, the, have , like, see, am, can, and an , one, if, yellow, on, three, have, this week. We will form letters of the alphabet and put them in ABC order. We are talking about nouns as naming words. We will introduce verbs as “doing ” words. We are writing in our journals to express our opinions about a topic. We use a capital letter at the beginning of a sentence, and practice putting spaces between words and ending the sentence with a punctuation mark.
