Grade 4 – Miss Marucci

Please feel free to reach out to me regarding any questions or concerns you may have. Below I have tried to address some of your concerns.

  • The content I plan on covering everyday is sometimes shortened or extended depending on the student’s needs. This makes planning for homework, tests, or quizzes hard to predict with 100% accuracy.
  • I have my students write their “I Can” statements into their planner. This is done to clarify the standards, as a checklist to assure that all of the standards are taught throughout the school year, and/or the language to provide students when teaching or focusing on a particular standard. Research shows that when students can articulate the particular learning objective they are being taught, they are more likely to master it.

For the week of October 23rd – October 27th:

Reading: There will be a comprehension test given on their books on Tuesday. This week we will be determining the theme of a story, drama, or poem from details in the test.

Spelling: We will study our Unit 9 spelling words.

*Note I will not be posting spelling words after Thanksgiving. Spelling Words: flour, however, coil, enjoy, amount, powder, moist, vowel, spoil, flower, joint, joy, power, royal, foil, plow, choice, mouth, crowd, mount.

English: We will be looking at taking notes and summarizing. We will also be determining the main idea of a text and explaining how it is supported by key details.

Science: We will continue to use the engineering design cycle to design a solution to a problem. The students are working on an IN-CLASS “bug apartment”. I never asked the students to buy supplies, but I did say they could bring things from home if they wanted.

Religion: We will continue looking at Chapter 3 in our books titled “The Commandments and God’s Covenant“. Some of the topics covered in this chapter are The Ten Commandments and Saint Tereasa.

*This is a rough outline of what is expected to be covered in class this week. My lesson plans are broken down into “I Can” statements so that students and parents have a clear understanding of what was accomplished that day in class. Please see my checklist at the top of the page for a more in depth answer.
