SECOND GRADE IS GREAT!T

Week of October 23, 2017

MATH – This week we will be developing Place Value.  We  will model tens and ones, write numbers to 100, and compare numbers by using the proper symbol.   PLEASE PRACTICE ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION FACTS WITH YOUR CHILD EACH NIGHT.  

HOMEWORK:

MONDAY – 10-23 – Ret./Practice L-5-1

TUESDAY – 10/24 – Ret./Practice L-5-2

WEDNESDAY – 10/25 – Ret./Practice – L-5-3

THURSDAY – 10/26 – L-5-4                                                          

PHONICS – This week we will continue working on Long Vowels “O and E”

READING – We will be developing Leveled Selections from the “A-Z” program.  We will be reading fiction and selections on informational text.   We will be concentrating on Second Grade  High Frequency Words, identifying structure of story -beginning-middle-and end, and focusing on main ideas with supporting key details…  Please continue to practice the Second Grade High Frequency Words that have previously been sent home.

SPELLING – We will begin developing Unit 9 Words.  This week the words all contain final consonant clusters.  A list of these words will be sent home on Monday.  There will be 10 List Words and 4 Bonus Words each week. There will be a Practice Test On Wednesday and a Final Test on Friday.

HOMEWORK:

TUESDAY – 10/24  – Master #9

WEDNESDAY – 10/25 –  Any words missed on Practice Test will be practiced and returned.

THURSDAY – 10/26-  Study for Unit 9 Test.

RELIGION – We will introduce Chapter 6, “We Celebrate God’s Forgiveness”.  This chapter will discuss the parts to the Sacrament of Reconciliation”.  These next chapters will be preparing the students for the Sacrament .

ENGLISH – We will recognize common and proper nouns and their plural form.

HANDWRITING –We will be practicing Manuscript Letters  “Pp”, “Rr”, and “Mm”.

SOCIAL STUDIES –We will develop and discuss Communities and why we need leaders.

SCIENCE – We will focus on the use of inquiry skills in science and how scientists use tools to investigate and find solutions.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 27, WILL BE OUR HALLOWEEN PARTY AND PARADE. THE PARTY WILL BEGIN AROUND 1:00 AND THE PARADE WILL FOLLOW ABOUT 2:15.  

THE CHILDREN SHOULD WEAR THEIR GYM CLOTHES TO SCHOOL EACH TUESDAY.

PLEASE REMEMBER TO SEND A HEALTHY SNACK WITH YOUR CHILD EACH DAY.

IF YOU ARE SENDING IN A BIRTHDAY TREAT, PLEASE KNOW THAT WE HAVE 18 STUDENTS IN OUR CLASS THIS YEAR.
